Research Strategy

This guide is organized to help you in the research process,

  • Remember to start with general and then move to the more specific.
  • Using effective search terms in both databases and books is very important; watch the video below for some guidance in choosing terms
  • Once you've given some thought to search terms, ABC-Clio American History and Britannica Academic are great first steps for very basic background information
  • Next, move on to more general books in the library collection, followed by more specialized books from the library as well as ProQuest Ebook Central.  Fill in with primary sources as your search gets more specific
  • Refine your terms and search strategy as you proceed; research is a cyclical, rather than linear process
  • Cite all of your sources as you select them!  Check out our Chicago Style Citation Guide for support

And don't forget to check in wtih the librarians with any questions.  We're here to help!
